Having already established itself as a staple tournament on two continents for several years now, the World Series of Poker will make return to Africa for its 2nd year to the Emerald Resort and Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa. The WSOP Africa will take place from February 21-26 and will comprise of the main event and five others, each with opportunities to win tournament rings.
Hosting the 2012 WSOP Africa will be five-time WSOP Champion Scotty ‘The Prince’ Nguyen who will also play in the Celebrity Charity Tournament on the 23rd of February.
“You know, the Prince has been all over the world baby, you name it: Australia, Asia, Europe, but this is my first time going to South Africa and I’m so excited to come out and share this great game we love with the players there, to get to know them and to just have a good time baby,” said Nguyen about the upcoming event.
“Just make sure the people at the Emerald protect me from any lions and I promise you we’ll have a lot of fun baby!”
The WSOP Africa series was added as part of the WSOP Circuit Events in 2011 and consisted of two official Ring Events. After a successful first run, this year’s series has been expanded to six official Ring Events.
A separate, one-day ladies’ tournament, with a WSOP Circuit ladies pendant as the prize,
will also be held.
In last year’s inaugural WSOP Africa Main Event championship, the winner, South African player Warren Zackey, walked away with $231,956.
