WSOP Heads East as Asia-Pacific stop is announced for 2013
Already having established itself as the most popular poker tournament series in the world with thousands of poker players making Las Vegas their home for part of the summer, in true American fashion, the World Series of Poker is franchising itself globally. Having already expanded into Europe since 2007 with the WSOP Europe having made appearances in London, England and in Cannes, France and with the WSOP Africa in Johannesburg for its second year now, the WSOP is expanding into Asia next year.
The World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific (WSOP APAC) will include a series of five bracelet events that will take place from April 4 through 15, 2013 in Melbourne, Australia at the Crown Casino. The Crown Casino is best known for hosting the very popular Aussie Millions tournament.
“Our goal is to establish the worldwide grand slam of poker and use our platform to elevate the game through a series of major championships,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “With WSOP Las Vegas growing annually and WSOP Europe poised for long-term success after five years, the time is right to turn our attention to the dynamic poker scene in Asia and Australia. Given Crown’s success with the ‘Aussie Millions Poker Championship,’ we couldn’t ask for a better partner than Crown to establish the Asia-Pacific’s definitive poker festival.”
Like other tournaments taking place overseas, Canadians should keep an eye out for online satellite opportunities to win their seat to the WSOP APAC.
