The WPT Montreal festivities resumed for Day 1B and Playground Poker Club just managed to further reaffirm why they are the country’s largest poker destination by unveiling a hockey rink in the giant club which was host to a Celebrity Hockey Shootout just moments ago.
Celebrity guest announcer Bruce Buffer was flown in to announce the shootout contestants which consisted of a mix of poker and hockey pros.
The celebrity goalies each took their turns as human shields starting with the “Unabomber” Phil Laak who went first then followed by Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari. The goalie who would stop the most shots would win.
The shooters were Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel, former Montreal Canadiens captain and head coach Guy Carbonneau, four time WSOP and two-time WPT bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, two-time WPT bracelet winner Marvin Rettenmaier as well as Esfandiari and Laak each taking their respective turns as shooters.
Both celebrity “rookie goalies” did a great job stopping shots and came out in one piece, but Phil Laak managed to allow fewer goals.
The fans went crazy watching the hockey action… but nothing compares to the action that is unfolding at the tables right now as more than 500 players have already taken their seats today to compete for what’s expected to be an unprecedented $3 million, the largest prize pool in Canada of 2012.
Players are still registering and today’s attendance has already surpassed that of Day 1A as an amazing 50 online satellite qualifiers also joined the mix today by winning WPT Montreal packages by playing on Canada’s most trusted online poker room and WPT Montreal title sponsor Party Poker. Remember, Party Poker is the only place where you can win packages online for the World Poker Tour’s prestigious live events and satellites buyins start for as little as $1.
