A year ago at the 2011 PCA, the identity of a young online poker phenom simply known as “Isildur1” was unveiled as 20-year old Viktor Blom from Sweden. Viktor Blom became the latest edition to the PokerStars family of professional poker players.
Blom, who earned a legendary online reputation playing high stakes cash games against some of the world’s best cash games players, beat out a field of 30 top live tournament players in the $100,000 Super High Roller event.
The total prize pool of $3,136,000 was made up of a total of 30 entrants who were allowed a maximum of 2 rebuys.
Blom beat out Dan Shak in heads-up after a three-way struggle between Blom, Shak and 2011 PCA champion Galen Hall. This was Blom’s first major live tournament victory. Dan Shak had previously won the $100,000 Challenge at the Aussie Millions for $1.1 Million in addition to a 2nd place finish at the NAPT Mohegan Sun for $254,000. He goes home with $846,700 for 2nd place. Last year’s PCA Main Event winner Galen Hall takes $476,400 for finishing in 3rd spot.
Notable Canadians who finished in the money included 2010 WSOP Champion Jonathan Duhamel who finished fourth for $313,600 and last year’s runner up in the same event, Daniel Negreanu, who finished in fifth spot for $250,900. Duhamel was the first player to bust out of the tournament but ended up making a rebuy, a gamble that paid off for him.
Congratulations to the winners!
