The Roberto Luongo Charity Poker Classic is now only a few days away, with this No Limit Hold’em tournament will be “drafting” any and all B.C. Poker players looking to put a “few in the net” in support of youth health and wellness; through both hockey education and grassroots programs in B.C. It is estimated as much as $80,000 will be raised to support this investment in British Columbia youth.
Those interested in participating can either satellite in online, or purchase seats directly for the $300 buy-in event that is scheduled to take place on Monday November 14th at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia.
The charity tournament will be hosted by Vancouver Canuck goaltender and PlayNow.com spokesperson Roberto Luongo, who will be mixing at the tables of players both playing online at PlayNow.com, as well as participating live for the charitable evening planned.
“This is a great opportunity to raise money for a terrific cause through a fun night of entertainment,” explained Roberto Luongo. “I enjoy getting together with friends to play poker and to have the proceeds donated to charity means a lot to everyone.”
Prizes at the charity tournament will include an estimated $45,000 prize pool as well as a number of themed prizes donated by friends of Luongo, though nobody has to leave the event with-out a little loot and souvenirs of the unique and memorable occasion; an optional $200 charity donation includes a complimentary stay at the River Rock Hotel, a PlayNow.com gift bag and a number of collectible items. Those in attendance will also be able to bid on items in live and silent auctions.
If tweets and news feeds are any indicator, some of the poker communities biggest names are also looking to “unofficially” lending their support and likely turning out; with Brain Hastings actively spreading the word to all his Vancouver “tweeps” on the social networks. Daniel Skolovy, Adam Levy and Jonas Mackoff are just a few of the local or visiting poker legends that can be expected to join the cause and the game for the entertaining evening.
Additional information on the tournament is available at PlayNow.com, with daily qualifying poker tournaments running nightly until November 12 at 9 p.m. (PST). Seats to play in the tournament are available to the public, who can purchase seats on a first-come basis through the River Rock Casino Resort by calling 604-247-8983 to register. PlayNow.com offers regulated, socially responsible gambling entertainment while generating income to benefit all British Columbians.
