Yesterday all eyes were on the Super Bowl where despite a 37-minute blackout that nearly changed the outcome of the game, the Baltimore Ravens went onto claim their Championship rings and victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
As the football season came to a close this weekend, so did a couple of major tournaments around the world. The 2013 Aussie Millions saw one of the longest final tables in history, (7-players play 17 hours) for the the $10,000 AUD main event won by Mervin Chan of Malaysia ($1.6 million AUD) with notable pro Patrik Antonius coming in 3rd. An 18-player $250,000 AUD buy-in super highroller also took place which was won by Sam Trickett who scooped a monster $2 million AUD. The 2013 WPT Borgata Winter Open also came to a close and was won by Andy Hwang of the U.S. for $730,053. In 6th was Canadian Matthew Salsberg for $147,671.
On the heels of those tournaments, the 2013 PokerStars EPT Deauville is already underway. Montrealer Patrick Braga won the France Poker Series, considered to be the little brother of the European Poker Tour and also organized by PokerStars. A number of Canadians are in Deauville hoping to score big.
In Vegas, the 2013 Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza is on with a 78-event schedule during the entire month of February. Starting later this week and running from February 7 – 18 is the 2013 WSOP Circuit Caesars Palace which included 12 tournaments with buy-ins starting at $365 leading up to a $1,675 main event. Another WSOP Circuit event is taking place far away in South Africa at the Emerald Casino in Johannesburgh between Feb 5 – 10 including a $3,300 main event and a $10,400 no-limit high roller event.
In Los Angeles, the 2013 L.A. Poker Classic is still running throughout February with 68-events. The highlight tournaments this week are a couple of $100k guaranteed events which take place on February 5 and 8 with $1,100 and $550 buy-ins respectively as well as an $1,100 buy-in $50k guaranteed on February 7.
In Florida, the WPT continues its course with the 2013 WPT Lucky Hearts Open Hollywood and running from February 8 – 12 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida with a $3,500 buy-in main event.
Closer to home in Montreal we have the Grand Opening celebration of an exciting new poker club,VIP Poker Room, in Kahnawake just minutes from Montreal running from February 7 -11 and featuring a $550 buy-in $100k guaranteed tournament from February 8-11 and a $5,000 buy-in Players Championship tournament from February 9-11.
