The Main Event of the inaugural Stardust Canadian Poker Classic sponsored by PokerStars.net kicked off last night at the Stardust Poker Mansion located in Kahnawake, Montreal, Quebec.
The Main Event is an $1,100 buy-in No-Limit Texas Hold’em Freeze-Out tournament with a Massive $300,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool.
In addition to buying in directly to the tournament and playing live qualifiers offered at Stardust, players also had the opportunity to qualify online through PokerStars.net.
The tournament is poised to be among the largest cash prize pools to date in the Province of Quebec. With 165 players already entered into Day 1A and a full house is expected for Day 1B, it is highly likely that the $300,000 guarantee will get surpassed.
A number of celebrities have shown up for the SCPC including NHL alumni Mathieu Dandenault, Georges Laraque, CFL Alumni Steve Charbonneau, Anwar Stewart, UFC Fighters Rory MacDonald, Joey Gambino, Francis Carmont, Sean Pierson, Mitch Meyberger, comedians Bruno Landry, Actor Carl Marotte, and singer Andree-Anne Leclerc.
Also playing was 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel who was on the feature table broadcast via Live Stream.
Since opening its doors in April 2012, Stardust Poker Mansion is defining itself as one of Canada’s premier poker destinations offering a very exquisite and warm poker décor accompanied by a fine cigar lounge to satisfy aficionados and a restaurant serving up excellence in dining with an impressive wine cellar – all of the above adding fresh flavour to the already thriving Montreal poker scene.
The first segment of Day 1 came to a close late Thursday night. Day 1A played down to 50 players and the same is expected for Day 1B Friday before play resumes on Saturday for Day 2.
Here is a list of chip counts from Day 1A.
