In a move in tune with the times, the Deerfoot Inn and Casino Poker Room has adopted an upcoming tournament format that has had proven results in creating great prize pools across North America; a small buy-in event with multiple starting Days that accumulates into some hefty pay-outs for those advancing to the finals…
Dubbed the “12 Days of Christmas”, the $150 total buy-in Event #1 features starting days from 1a all the way up to 1j; beginning on November 28th each night at 7:00PM until December 7th. That’s a total of 10 starting days leading up to the finals at Noon on Saturday, December 8th! Fields are capped each evening at 66 entries, it’s being advertised as a “freeze-out”, players start with 8000 chips and 25 minute blind levels. If our assumptions are right, around 10% of the field will advance each day to the finals and the room has posted on FB up to 660 could be filled for this event.
The Los Angeles Poker Classic and Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino are just a few examples of similar buy-in and format tournaments that have been able to meet million dollar guarantees on this style of event; by comparison here in Canada, the Stardust Poker Classic drew 212 runners at $165 for their 3 start days, creating a prize pool of more than $30,000.
Playground Poker Club will also be running 3 starting days for it’s first $135+$15 Event of the Poker Classic beginning on November 15th and leading into WPT Montreal; clearly a popular structure on our poker scene today.
Should the Deerfoot Inn and Casino reach or come close to it’s 660 player cap, somewhere in the neighborhood of $75,000 to $80,000 will be up for grabs to those making the finals.
Event #2 will close out the action for their series with a $330 No Limit Hold’em featuring 30 minute blinds, 10,000 starting chips and an 88 player field cap beginning play at 12:00 PM.
