With a lockout in the cards for the NHL at least until the end of November, some of the League’s finest have found poker as a perfect way to keep that competitive spirit alive.

Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver canucks is announced to take part in the WSOP Circuit.

The World Series of Poker Circuit is taking place at the River Rock Casino in Richmond, BC for ten events from October 27 to November 7, 2012 where players can have a chance to play against Luongo and two online events via PlayNow.com on November 18 and 25, 2012.

Luongo is no stranger to the game and has already made an appearance at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas this summer where he finished in the top 10% of players finishing 639th out of 6,598 entrants.

This is the first time the WSOP Circuit has come to Canada and also working with an online poker room, PlayNow.com. Players will compete for more than $2.5 million in prize money, with the winner getting invited to play for a million dollars and a trademark gold bracelet at the National Championships’ Main Event in New Orleans in May 2013.

In the midst of all this, the superstar goaltender of the Vancouver Canucks, is rumoured to be in trade negotiations with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
