Randal Flowers is the winner of the WPT Festa al Lago poker tournament at the Bellagio yesterday, becoming the youngest player to win two WPT titles. Flowers won $831,500 for his first place finish defeating 335 players. The 22-year old from Texas also won the WPT Spanish Championship in June 2009. His career live tournament winnings are sitting above the $1.8 million mark along with an estimated additional $2.2 million won in online play.
Commenting on his second WPT victory, Flowers said:
“It’s much sweeter. It’s double the prize and it’s a lot more attention. Hopefully winning number two will help me get some recognition. Nobody even knew I won in Barcelona.”
Flowers almost found himself on the rail just short of the final table after pushing his remaining chips holding K-10 into Michael Benvenuti’s pocket K’s. A gut shot on the turn developed into a straight on the river and by the time the final table of six players was reached, Flowers held the chip lead.
Heads-up adversary, Michael Benvenuti, finished the tournament in second place.
In addition to the prize money and WPT title, Flowers also took home a WPT bracelet, a watch courtesy of Bellagio, and a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship that will take place in May 2011.
Congratulations, Randal Flowers!
