PokerStars’ Zoom Poker, the fast fold poker variant, has come out of “beta” after two months of real money testing and has also been released on Android mobile clients. Over 300 million hands were dealt during the beta period.
At the moment, it is not available for iPhone or iPad users, because the verification procedures take longer for all Apps in Apple’s App Store.
Android users will be prompted to update their software. Zoom can be found in the lobby alongside normal cash games and tournaments.
Zoom Poker has become very popular among players with an estimated 25% of cash games hands being played on Zoom Poker.
The player experience is very similar to Full Tilt’s original Rush Poker. The Zoom tab in the main lobby takes you to a new lobby which lists the game types and player pools available. No Limit and Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and 5 Card Draw games are currently offered at stakes from 0.01/0.02 to $2.50/$5.
When you join a pool you are offered the option to decide how many tables you want to play up to a maximum of 4. If you are in the blinds and fold, you are instantly moved to a new table but the other players cannot see that you have moved until the action moves to your player.
Tables seem to be much tighter than normal but stealing blinds occurs a lot. Even at the lowest stakes players seem to have adjusted and are defending their blinds much more widely.
Other poker networks are releasing their own fast poker offerings.
