PokerStars has finally succeeded in having its fast-fold patent application accepted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
What initially started filed its first patent application in December 2008. When parent company, Rational Group acquired Full Tilt Poker in 2012, the company added the intellectual property rights of Rush Poker, the original fast fold poker first introduced by Full Tilt Poker. PokerStars fast fold variant goes by the name of Zoom Poker.
Fast fold poker has helped boost the revenues of many poker rooms worldwide by dealing more hands played. Most of the larger poker networks have introduced fast fold poker over the past couple of years and others are embracing into their poker offering.
After the patent was granted, gaming lawyers signaled troubles ahead for other poker operators using its now patented fast fold poker product in the US. Companies like 888 Poker, PartyPoker and WSOP.com could find themselves facing challenges from PokerStars regarding their patent number 8,727,850.
This is kind of a victory for PokerStars who have not yet been able to secure a regulated license in the USA.
