World Cup of Poker IX

Set to take place when the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure hits the Bahamas Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island again in January; online qualifiers for the World Cup of Poker IX begin this week.

“For its ninth year, the WCP is undergoing a bit of a shake-up in terms of how countries and players qualify. This year, the fate of each country is in everyone’s hands, not just a select few. At the outset there will be eight groups of nine countries broadly split by time zones. Each of the groups will then play four $2.20 qualifying matches that are open to all players within the countries of that group. The matches will be heads-up NLHE Super Knockout tourneys that take place on August 11, 12, 18 and 19.”

The countries will then be ranked by the combined total of their highest individual cash in each of the four tourneys. The country with the highest total in each group will win a place in the finals at the PCA.

Once the finalists have been decided, there will be four more qualifiers to decide on which players will represent their countries at the PCA. These four tourneys will take place on August 26 and will consist of two freerolls (one for the country’s top 10 TLB players from 2011), a $1.10 NLH and $11 NLH. Once all the players have been selected they will be joined at the PCA by a fifth member – the team captain – that where possible will be a Team PS Pro or Team Online member.
