It’s been a long while since Phil Helmuth has won a major poker tournament, nearly five years. The eleven-time WSOP bracelet winner and youngest player in his time to win the WSOP Main Event at the age of 24, played in 2012 LA Poker Classic $2,080 buy-in 2-day Event #49, the Commerce Eight Game Mix Championship which included the following game variations NLH/ PLO/ TripleDraw/ Hold’em/ Omaha8/ Razz/ Stud/ Stud8.
Phil is nicknamed the Poker Brat and he is one of those guys you either love or love to hate, but we love him cause he is very amusing at tournaments.
Phil’s victory came late last night on February 29 after they made a 5 player deal between Brian Devonshire, Owais Ahmed, Jay “WhoJedi” Newnum, Brian Tate where he got most of prize pool money $22K total but had to played heads-up against Brian Tate for the trophy. Phil also won an additional $10,000 from his fellow pros as part of a who lasts the longest bet.
Phil amusingly tweeted about his Leap Year Win: “It’s Feb 29, see u in 4 years (the NEXT Feb 29) to defend my title!”
