Montreal Party Poker Classic Defines New Poker Term: “One of a Kind”

When describing the inaugural Montreal Party Poker Classic, a couple of terms come to mind: “Full House” and “One of a Kind”. When the people at Party Poker commit themselves to a worthy cause, they go above and beyond. This week’s charity tournament was yet another example of how Canada’s favourite online poker site and title sponsor helped exceed the expectations of many poker enthusiasts.

The first edition of the Montreal Party Poker Classic charity poker tournament to benefit genetic breast cancer research drew impressive crowds during stage one of the event that took place in Downtown Montreal over the past four days. The aftershock of stage one will be felt in Las Vegas when last night’s 20 lucky finalists are transported in true Party Poker style for the ultimate Grand Finale slated to take place at the legendary Bellagio. The 20 finalists will compete for large cash prizes and for a potentially life changing experience, one of 10 seats to the World Poker Tour’s $10,000 buy-in Five Diamond World Poker Classic, an event worth millions in prize money that also offers players a chance to compete with the elite of the poker world.

In addition to tournament prizes for the top 40 finalists, the event awarded many other prizes last night. In keeping with the event’s fun and classy theme, among those great prizes was a brand new Mercedes-Benz courtesy of Montreal’s Top Mercedes Dealer Silver Star Mercedes and was won by Mike Crabbe of Ottawa.

Here are the top 20 finalists of the first annual Montreal Party Poker Classic:

Alan   Close Kathy Sawers
Allan Magid Kevin Fischback
Archie Mayappo Louise Lamarche
Arthur Walker Michael Boyle
Bradley Steinmetz Michael Lawson
Eric Richer Olivier Brossard
Francois Cholette Philippe Bouchard
Jason Pynn Riyaz Abdulla
Joel Sheres Said Michailidis
Kara Scott Tony DiMaria

Among the top 20 finalists who will be headed to Vegas is Team Party Poker Pro Kara Scott whose smile was present throughout the entire event and who was part of the feature table that was broadcast via Live Stream to people across the country.

With a modest entry fee going to a worthy cause, the Jodi Taiger Lazarus Fund for Hereditary Breast Cancer Research, the Montreal Party Poker Classic allowed players to pursue their dream of playing in one of the most coveted Live Tournaments in the World, the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

Players who didn’t make it this year, can still qualify for the upcoming Five Diamond World Poker Classic by playing satellites only available on Party Poker. If you haven’t tried Party Poker, it’s free to download.

At the overwhelming response of the players, the tournament organizers are confident in a repeat event next year that will be full of new surprizes. Like many other signature events, the Montreal Party Poker Classic is destined to become a staple on the Canadian poker scene.

Congratulations to all the lucky finalists and to the organizers for a great event!
