MGM Resorts International has been granted a license to operate online poker by the Nevada Gaming Commission bringing the total of licensees to 16 that will be allowed to service the online poker space in the tiny state of Nevada. Only Nevada residents will be allowed to play online but this legislation could pave the way for expanded legislation elsewhere in the country.
MGM operates many of Las Vegas’ signature properties including the MGM Grand, Mirage, the new City Center complex of casino hotels as well as the famed Bellagio.
MGM resorts and fellow land based casino group Boyd Gaming who operate among other properties, Borgata and The Orleans, have partnered up with online partner bwin.party for the much awaited launch of their online poker site.
While MGM is one of the most reputed land based casino brands in the world, bwin.party are among the elite online gambling operators, making this a formidable union.
Currently MGM offers social media games on Facebook via a game called myVegas but launch plans for regulated online poker in the state of Nevada are for early 2013.
