Martin Jacobson Chip Leader Entering Day 7 at WSOP Main Event

The Main Event of the 2014 World Series of Poker edges into Day 7 with the final 27 players of the original 6,683 starters competing to make the coveted final nine table today. All of them are already assured of at least a  $286,900 payday. Leading the pack is a Swedish player by the name of Martin Jacobson who has 22,335,000 chips, nearly 6 million more chips than his 2nd and 3rd place rivals Luis Velador and Dan Sindelar from the USA. What’s interesting to note is that Martin was also the first chip leader of the tournament at the end of a completed flight, Day 1A. Martin’s journey was a steady one throughout each Day of the Main Event, ensuring he stayed with the pack. He was 11th in chips after Day 2AB, 28th after Day 3, 18th after Day 4, 14th after Day 5. Martin is seasoned pro and counts for more than $4.8 million in career live tournament winnings.

Unfortunately for Canada, there will not be any WSOP bracelets in Vegas in 2014, ending a streak of impressive victories over the previous three summers where Canadian poker players have shined in Las Vegas including a coveted Main Event Championship bracelet. At least the current chipleader Martin Jacobson was sporting a Canadian Olympic Team sweater, (maybe he is planning to defect to Canada).

Still, a number of Canadians have managed to cash in big this summer, surpassing the $10 million mark largely in part to Daniel Negreanu’s runner up finish in the Big One for One Drop.
