John Agelakis of Vancouver, BC, has won Canadian Open Poker Championship no-limit hold’em event #6, finally breaking the hot streak that Calgary locals have been on as of late. The tournament took place at Grey Eagle Casino and featured a $220 buy-in. John had to work his way through a tough field of nearly 200 players in order to come out on top and claim the top prize of $10,000 and the championship ring.
When we spoke to John, who has played across all the major circuits around California, Vegas and Atlantic City, he told us that while this has been his first time playing in Calgary, “it feels great [to be playing here], the best players come out of Canada” he said.
John wanted to dedicate his first place COPC win to his mother Maria, his two brothers George and Emmanuel as well as Annamaria.
