The live event which took place last weekend in London, England featured some of the best names in poker and the final table was a tough one which included pros of Patrik Antonius, Howard Lederer, Barny Boatman, 2010 WSOP Europe champion James Bord and former soccer pro Tony Bloom. Gus Hansen won a cool $1,000,000 for his first place finish at the Full Tilt Poker sponsored Poker Million IX.
The final hand came about in typical heads-up fashion after Hansen opened the button with A-8 and called a shove from the short-stacked Bloom holding A-6, with an eight arriving on the flop to strengthen his grip on the title and $1 million first place prize.
The city of London has been good to Hansen this year. Just under three months ago, Hansen claimed a WSOP Europe victory in the No-Limit Hold’em Heads-Up High Rollers where he won £288,409 (~$460,000 CAD) and also able to shed the “Best Player Never to Win a Bracelet” title.
It’s been a great year for Gus Hansen as with these victories he has re-ignited himself on the tournament poker scene. Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen has always had the reputation for being one of the most aggressive players in poker and a regular at the high stakes cash games.
