great-blue-heron-casino-logoThe Great Blue Heron Charity Casino in Port Perry Ontario has been changing things up in terms of the games and formats offered for their medium limit Texas Hold’em tournaments. Change is always good and most recently a $500 50 Fixed Limit Hold’em was held. A total of fifty players competed in the game, which took 9 hours to play to completion and generated a total prize-pool of $23,750.  Here are the names of the top five players and pay-outs:
1st  Rougang Wang        $9,500.00
2nd  Wing Tat Yeung      $5,937.50
3rd  Bartolomeo Russino  $3,562.50
4th  Luigi Veloce        $2,850.00
5th  Douglas Hamilton    $1,900.00

On March 9th, another $500 50 tournament will be played, this time as a No Limit Hold’em Freeze-out.  Far more often than not, these fill to the 110 player field cap at GBH. Players start with 5000 chips and 30 minute levels allow for a fair amount of play. 25 Antes start at Level 6, but reasonable increments show Level 10 only at 500/1000 with a 75 ante until after 300 minutes of play and 45 minutes of breaks have elapsed.

Only a few weeks later, on March 23rd the Great Blue Heron has something different scheduled again. A $300 30 “Shootout” NLH with 3000 starting chips will be played, using the same structure as the $550, only each table will play to be the last person standing, with the final person from each playing the final players from the others for the last table of the event. The field cap is set at 100 players maximum.

5% of every tournament prize-pool is held back for the annual “King of Cards” Invitational, where the top players cashing are invited back at the years end to play for the accumulated money. Players must have a GBH RapidRewardsPlayersClub card to be eligible, so make sure to sign up before playing in any of these events.

Great Blue Heron Charity Casino is located in Port Perry, about an hour from Toronto and less than a 100km drive away.

I love the game but am far to social to take it seriously and sometimes give up a little to much information at the table because I enjoy discussing the game, so decided it was safest for my bankroll to take up writing about the game. That way I still get to meet the cool people and opinions on the game, but with a little less risk.
