After eight weeks of live inter-conference six-max and heads-up matches the Global Poker League (GPL) has returned with the Summer Series. For the next five weeks the GPL office in Las Vegas will host live cross-conference play inside their new innovation, The Cube.
Players will face each other standing in a soundproof box viewing their cards and acting on their hand using tablets and monitors. Not only will the players be able to stare each other down, they will also be mic’d up and able to communicate with each other. Live Summer Series matches will begin on Monday, June 6 at 8:00 P.M. ET. For the full schedule and details about the GPL check out their site here.
Canada’s own team the Montreal Nationals take top honours heading into the summer. The Nationals also being the first and only team the cross the 100-point mark ended the first half the season with 106 points. They lead the Americas conference by 11 points over the LA Sunset though the London Royals of the Eurasia conference are their closest competitor with 97.
The Nationals team captain Marc-Andre Ladouceur assembled a strong lineup, selected a great mix of Canadian poker talent as well a World Champion from Sweden. Ladouceur, Mike McDonald, Pascal Lefrancois, Xuan Liu, Jason Lavallee, and Martin Jacobson have been putting on a clinic over the course of the year.
Lavallee won his last seven heads-up matches sweeping Anthony Zinno of the Las Vegas Moneymakers 3-0 twice. Lefrancois is also coming off a heads-up sweep against the LA Sunset, and both Jacobson and McDonald only left two points each on the table during their last six-max matches. The Nationals first match of the Summer begins Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 P.M. ET. Watch it live on twitch.tv/mtlnationals,
