tjipke999 Your playing your Kings to aggressively like most players do.In my opinion kings are a hand you need to be careful with. You overplayed them. After all one ace will beat you.I would suggest to slow play kings before the flop and play them more aggressively after the flop accordingly to what comes on the flop.Too many times players see kings and think to go all in,why? ...why not slow play and be careful? why would you go all in and risk your tournament life.I hope this has helped you with your question.Thats my opinion.Johnny ACES Cabral

I'm gonna take another line...one of the better poker players I know told me to think of combinations that beat you when considering plays...in this case only AA is ahead...it's likely that that the initial raiser holds a pair you have crushed or Ax...leaving only 3 in the deck.
You need to get value when you pick up these types of spots; don't be afraid of monsters under the bed! Yes, sometimes you will have to fold if an Ace hits, but most times you can stack someone hear. Many players will be willing to put all their chips in if they hit top pair and you have only one higher to worry about. The next time you are watching WSOP on TV, watch how players will look to get max value. Trust me, this approach will see you ome out ahead far more than overplaying them, even though it will suck to have to fold or have the odd ace hit. Next time, please post stack sizes, even rough estimates and blinds and we can really look at the hand. You bet 4x pot by the looks of things, where you could have reraised to 4800. A flop shove would have been closer to pot sized and might have got action. |

While I do agree with jontm's analysis of how players should look for max value on their big pairs, I have to disagree with the idea of the min raise in this situation. With a stack size of 12000, a 3-bet to 4800 has already committed the player to the hand post flop, regardless if an A hits or not. In this case, with the raise and a caller, there is nothing wrong with picking up 4800 in chips (plus the limps and blinds) with less risk of having no choice but to shove on a flop with an A as you are waaaay too pot committed with a light 3-bet.

Don't know what the blinds are, but based on your stack size shoving is 100% correct. Flat calling the raise is bad, and any other raise commits you're stack anyway so you have to shove.

100% agree that he would be stack committed, but he can also easily commit his opponent here. Yes, you can go broke here but it's a great spot to pick up chips. And you can still fold on an ugly flop. Not ideal but you need to take chances with premium hands.
You can pick up small pots with air by opponent selection Good hands need value. |
