Now I think I have seen everything. Was going through the tourney schedule on Players Poker Canada and noticed a 1k and 3k on the December schedule...with Satellitte beside it????
So googling the event name "The Grand Loto-Quebec Poker Tournament", I end up on Espacejeux. Turns out these really are sats to a $25,000 buy-in next May. There will also be a scratch and win campain awarding seats. The event is going to give a $1,000,000 seat to the winner for the WSOP "Big One for One Drop" next summer. The top 16 will get $5000 "VIP" packages to go watch. I am going to write it up, but sure this event will be met with mixed opinion, so let's hear 'em if you have 'em... In fact this might make a good voting poll too... |

Jon, actually the $25K satellite is at Casino du Lac Leamy, which is in Gatineau (essentially a suburb of Ottawa) not Montreal.
I can't account for why they'd choose to do it there and NOT in Montreal. |

Thanks Mike! Overlooked that, seen all sats at Montreal and made incorrect assumption. Edit time...

As to the tourney itself - I'm pretty curious to know how many people they get.
Actually I'm curious if they'll even get anyone for the satellites - at $1.1K they are pretty expensive. Montreal is more developed in terms of poker than Ottawa or any of the other places in QC that will be running these, and the last couple of $1.1K tournaments at Playground have sold out (170 players) - but that's for a huge prize pool made up of cash prizes (top spot paid $42K last time). Even for a good poker player I think the smartest idea in terms of bankroll might be to try the alternative paths to a seat - scratch tickets or whatever - instead of a satellite (as ridiculous as that sounds). Maybe the online path is OK too, but I'll never know since I'm a Mac user and Espace Jeu only supports Windows PCs. Then again if I win a decent BBJ maybe I buy in to the $25K directly LOL. |

They just announced they have 22 players confirmed for the big event in Vegas at the WSOP - which is significant because that's the minimum required for it to be a bracelet event.
Also - it seems like the best way in seems to be a cheaper satellite at Mont-Tremblant (probably softer too) to the next level satty at Lac Leamy. It looks like via that route you can start at about a $150 initial buy-in. CDM starts at $1.1K. |

I heard yesterday that the Casino de Montreal's $3K satellite to the $25K tourney yesterday got... 4 players. Considering that the lower level satellites to this one started at $1.1K, it looks like the whole thing might be priced out of the market.
On one hand - if you have $3K to burn it might be easy to get into the $25K - but on the other hand as we know from online tournaments the whole satellite structure relies on getting enough players at the cheaper tournaments to fund the seats in the targets. This seems to be failing in this case. |

Hey jontm.I think the BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP is great for poker and charity of course. With a one million dollar entry. It will be exciting to watch....which in my opinion is good for poker and for new interest in the game from people who would nt watch if not for it.I am looking forward to watching the big names who enter.Guy from the Circus de soliel ..i think i spelled it right. He is the man who came up with the idea i think,i could be wrong not sure.He certainly has the bankroll for it.It is a genius of a idea and will be good for poker.I know i will be looking forward to it.Johnny ACES Cabral.

The Million Dollar tourney itself will be very interesting and exciting to watch. As for these satellites however I don't see them ever getting off the ground in full scale. I believe I read somewhere that if you win the satellites you "must" play the event, and can't just cash it out which is what I think 99% of the people would do.
On another note I hate the fact that it will be a bracelet event, and that it will completely destroy the "Biggest Winners of All-time" lists. |
