Event #:16 $109 partypoker Canadian Grand Prix is underway at the World Cup of Cards hosted by Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, QC. The event boasts a massive guarantee of $500,000 with 11 live flights at Playground and dozens more online on partypoker.

The Grand Prix Tour is known for its famous low buy-in/high guarantee tourneys, and this will be no different with a relatively tiny $109 CAD buy-in (USD $85 for online buy in). You can also qualify online from as little as $0.01 through our satellites!

The first two flights kicked off on Thursday, gathering fields of 113 for the 4 p.m. turbo start and another turbo flight at 9 p.m. collecting 139 entries. A total of 26 players have qualified for Dy 2 so far, 12 from the afternoon flight and 14 from the evening flight. Each Day 1 plays down to 10% of the total entries received when registration for each Day 1 closes.

Leading the Day 1a afternoon flight was Michel Dubreuil with 362,000. Also bagging top stacks were Danny Freitas (332,000), Mike Hamryszak (308,000), and Elvira Popescu (269,500).

Stacks reached much higher numbers in the evening flight. Mathieu Massicotte-Lecompte built a stack of 627,500 to claim the chip lead. Colin Scheckman used a double-knockout late in the day to propel himself up the leaderboard, finishing play with 455,000.

Anoop Jugurnath (278,500), Dylan Thibault (267,500), and recent Event #13 final tablist Tina Howie bagged 200,000.

There are five more starting flights at Playground Poker Club Friday and another four on Saturday, leading into Sunday’s Day 2 and the final table on Monday. Good luck to all players.
