Ultimate Poker, the first legal online poker room to go live in the state of Nevada, while in beta mode and using their own proprietary poker software, held its inaugural Ultimate Poker Sunday MTT yesterday to a sell-out crowd. The tournament was capped at 200 players.
With a $10k guarantee with $100 buyin all 200 seats were sold over an hour before the tournament started.
The tournament kicked off at 6PM PST and ran for just under six hours. The prize pool of $18,200 was distributed to the top 27 players with a first prize of $4,173 going to player “d4heels.”
Nevada is a state with small population but with a high concentration of gamblers who have actual casinos and some of the best poker rooms on their doorsteps. Many have argued that online poker will not be very viable within the State borders yet the preliminary success of Ulimate Poker’s first major tournament shows good signs that online poker may thrive. We just need to wait and see what future outcomes will be like once another 20 online poker rooms are launched into the mix each with their own offers and loyalty schemes vying for the same players.
