Day 1b kicked off at the Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, QC on Saturday. 213 entries started the day of the $2,000,000 guaranteed partypoker.net WPT Montreal $3,500 + $350 Main Event all eying the coveted championship belt increasing the total field size to 348 participants over two starting flights. 88 players ended the day with a stack in front of them including David Quang, who ended Day 1b as the chip leader, amassing a stack of 196,100 from his 30,000 chip starting stack.
Joining Quang atop the leaderboard was Michael Dentale (187,300), Manig Loesder (182,700), Senthuran Vijayaratnam (182,100) and Matt Salsberg (174,400) writer from the show ‘Weeds’ who rounded out the top five.
Some other notables to end the day with chips were husband and wife duo, Ryan D’Angelo (82,400) and Ronit D’Angelo (65,500), Canadian WSOP bracelet winner and partypoker qualifier Kristen Bicknell (39,700), Quebec native Marc-Andre Ladouceur, and Toronto, Ontario native, Sam Greenwood (21,600).
Some notables who were unable to make it through the day were Cate Hall, Kevin Stammen, Dylan Wilkerson, Darren Elias, Will Failla, and Garrett Greer.
Matt Salsberg gained most of his chips during a hand with the aforementioned Greer delivering a knockout when he called an all-in shove from Greer on a flop of :7h :5s :3s. Salsberg showed :7s :7d for a top set of sevens while Greer was drawing to only a runner-runner straight opportunity to win the pot when he turned over :Ac :Kd.
The :Ks on the turn meant that Greer was drawing dead and the dealer showed the meaningless :5d on the river. This pushed Salsberg to 145,000 and he ended the day with 174,400.
The third and final starting flight kicks off on Sunday at 11 a.m. local time with another 10 levels being played. After tomorrow all remaining entrants across the three starting flights will come back for Day 2 on Monday, November 14th.
