Daniel Negreanu Wins WSOP Asia Pacific Main Event and $1,038,825

Daniel-Negreanu-wsop_apacThe inaugural year of the WSOP Asia Pacific has a had an interesting turn of events with already Phil Ivey capturing his 9th WSOP bracelet in the Mixed Event and Canadian Jonathan Duhamel making a 4th place finish in the NLH Accumulator Event.

Today, in the much awaited Main Event, Daniel Negreanu entered the final table 2nd in chips but managed to be the last man standing. As the tournament end was in sight, Daniel flopped a flush to defeat Winfrid Yu from Scarborough, Ontario who finished in 3rd place before going heads up in the battle of the Daniels against the Daniel Marton, with a 10-1 chip advantage against the Autralian.

In the final hand of the match:

Daniel Marton raised to 125,000 before Daniel Negreanu moved all in. Marton instantly called.

The flop was but Marton picked up a straight draw on the . The room was silent as they waited for the river to fall.  A collective sigh of relief was followed by a round of applause as the bricked on the river, leaving Negreanu’s deuces to win the pot and the championship!

Daniel Marton wins $637,911 for his 2nd place accomplishment.

For Daniel Negreanu it’s his 5th WSOP bracelet which will mean just as much to him as the $1,038,825 in prize money.

The Main Event was a five day event with a total of 405 entrants who made the $10,000 buy-in for a combined prize pool of $3,847,500.

Other notable pros played in the Main Event including Antonio Esfandiari who was out in 9th for $65,408 and just missing the final table, Erik Seidel (39th – $20,392), Jonathan Duhamel, Phil Ivey,  Mike Watson, and local former WSOP Champ Joe Hachem to name a few.
