CPT Summer Showdown Set To Draw Big Numbers & Names, Presented By IveyLeague

With only 4 days to go before things kick off at the Grey Eagle Casino for the CPT Summer Showdown, it’s clear that there are no shortage of top players looking to claim their share of the $500,000 in prize-pool guarantees.

Team Ivey Poker pro Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah is amongst the game’s fierce competitors already confirmed for Event 3, a $250 turbo, Event 4, the $550 Mega Stack, Event 6, the $3,300 High Roller & Event 8, the two starting day $1,100 Main Event – but he’ll have his work cut out for him with 2 time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Idema looking to defend his Grey Eagle Poker High Roller title after winning it here the last time the CPT hosted a series.

Similar guarantees were crushed just few months ago, with the Main Event drawing an impressive 270 entries – the largest $1,100 turnout in Alberta in more than 5 years. This time the sites are set even higher across the board, with hopes to break 300 players in the Main Event, really see the High Roller take off and maybe even crack 400 in the 2 starting day, $75,000 prize-pool guaranteed $330 Event 1 that already seen an impressive 350 entries on it’s last running this past spring.

It also certainly can’t hurt in getting there that Phil Ivey himself was tweeting out his support to almost a million followers, boasting “Ivey League training is the main sponsor of the upcoming Canadian Poker Tour events” and sharing the schedule with his fans.

We also have on good authority that the many Calgary players expected to attend will be joined by BC’s WSOP Omaha 8 champion Calen “BigWheel” McNeil, who won his bracelet in 2013 then final tabled the same event AGAIN this year, Edgewater poker heroes John Agelakis and MD Hughes (hot off some big results), As well as Edmonton grinders Tony & Christopher Comely, Bash Ramahi, Talal “EarlGrey23” Shoush, and Quentin Siffledeen.

Sunday’s Ladies Championship is rumoured to be expecting some familiar local names who have had past success on the Las Vegas felts, such as Carolyn Grad and Angie Gelinas, a few tricky players in what is sure to be a well received battle for a rare shot at a national women’s title.

Be sure to click on the some of these names to learn more about who you’ll be playing as well as check out the full schedule below and the best of luck to those playing!
