Canadian Poker Tour Player of the Year Challenge Starts January 1, 2014
As the new year begins, so too does the battle for the Canadian Poker Tour Player of the Year. The CPT Points System is back in full swing for the upcoming year and will feature over 150 events nationwide that players can accumulate points in for this prestigious title. Points are earned by players anytime they cash in a CPT sanctioned event and calculated based on the amount of the buy in, number of players in the event and the position the player cashes. A detailed explanation is available on the CPT website at www.canadianpokertour.tv.
No membership or registration is required to participate and the results and updates will be under the guidance of CPT Director of Results, Ryan Snyder. Sanctioned events will be listed on the CPT Schedule and will be run at affiliated card rooms across the country including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, multiple venues in Ontario, Moncton and Halifax. Other venues can have their major events included in the CPT Points System by having poker rooms register with the CPT.
“We are committed to showcasing players from across the country through the points leaderboards and magazine”, commented Snyder. Ryan is part of a new management team that has big plans for the CPT in 2014. Other new CPT management additions include Richard Keeley, the new President and CEO of parent company HeadsUp Entertainment and Herb Van Dyke as Director of Poker Operations. Both have extensive experience in the gaming and poker industry.
Canadian poker icon Daniel Negreanu was recently quoted in Card Player Magazine, “I’ve always been a fan of the Player of the Year races, even Player of the Series which they had when I was much younger at events like the L.A. Poker Classic. Those were always very fun challenges for me, because they suit my goal-oriented mindset. Player of the Year awards are always something that I look at as more valuable than just winning a tournament, because it shows consistent results, and that just has more meaning to me.”
The first event of the new season is in Calgary at the Grey Eagle Monthly Challenge on Wednesday January 1st with an enhanced structure for 2014 with 15,000 starting stack and 30 minute levels. CPT Monthly Challenge events are about to be announced in other cities across the country with initial schedule on the CPT website.
