Broumas, Smith & Minev Clean Up to Close Out 10th Annual Western Canadian Poker Classic

The 10th Annual Western Canadian Poker Classic at Casino Yellowhead wrapped up its final 2 events on the weekend with a $800 No Limit Hold’em and a big buy-in $5,200 Mixed Pot Limit Omaha/No Limit Hold’em.

Saturday seen some major excitement as George Broumas and Mike Smith wound up facing off for the $31,000 top prize, title and trophy. Smith had been on quite the hot streak, already cashing deep in 2 of the 3 previous events, but Broumas wasn’t about to let him bring the bragging rights back home to Saskatoon. George did come out on top, earning the win, while Michael would have to be satisfied with a total of $26,400 for putting his name on the pay-outs a third time this series.

Event #4 also seen a few others ringing in multiple cashes for the 10th Annual WCPC; Ryan Zdunick’s final table finish put him into five figures of winnings for the series, while Ron Lauzon also chalked up number 2.

Event #5 was not for the faint of heart and understandably didn’t draw the numbers of the rest of the series, but it did put up another $39,000 prize-pool to battle over for those who did turn out. Damian Minev took home a cool $28,000 for his days work, while Klye Johnson didn’t make out to shabby either with an $11,000 second place finish.

All told, WCPC Events #1 & #2, the $2200 Main Event and these final few rang in at $428,493 in total tournament prize money, surpassing the pre-series estimate set at $400,000. Congratulations to all the players and staff on yet another successful Western Canadian Poker Classic!

  1. “yet another successful Western Canadian Poker Classic!” what an embarrassment 8 players for the 5k “they bit off more than they can chew”

    • Ignoring the 5k, which was pretty much to cater to what some players asked for, they hit the marks in the other 4. I would say that is a success
