Eric Place Wins BCPC Main Event and Recap


BCPC Main Event Winner Eric PlaceIt’s been an exciting week here in Richmond, British Columbia where the beautiful River Rock Casino have been host to one of Canada’s most prestigious tournaments, the BC Poker Championships. The BCPC comprised of three great tournaments, the $550 No Limit Hold’em, $1,100 No Limit Hold’em and $2,700 No Limit Hold’em events.

There were 496 players who contributed to the $248,000 prize pool in Event #1, the $550 No Limit Hold’em, an event that lasted a total of four days. In the end, it was Terence Lai from Mississauga, Ontario who outlasted his opponents to claim the $55,899 first prize. The top 45 players got paid in this event, with the lowest payout being $1,276. Event #2 then took over the momentum and attracted an impressive 647 players who made the $1,100 buy-in. The prize structure allowed for the top 63 finishers to claim a minimum prize of $2,219 but it was local man Yan Ho-Lee of Richmond who beat out everyone to win first prize of $139,493. The $2,700 Main Event started underneath the world’s largest disco ball as recorded by Guinness world records. There were 548 players making up the astonishing $1,345,000 prize pool, one of the largest for a Canadian poker tournament. The top 55 players received a cash prize but the big winner of the event was Eric Place of Halifax, Nova Scotia who grabbed the $300,000 Grand Prize. He played heads up against Connor Allisen of White Rock, BC. Allisen took $189,978 for this 2nd place finish. A notable 3rd place finish was by former 2009 COPC Champion Benjamin Leblond from Wakefield, Quebec who took home $119,491.

The final hand of the event was won with 2 pair, eights and sevens on the board.

Many of the professional poker players such as Brad ‘Yukon’ Booth, Greg ‘FBT’ Mueller, Gavin Smith and Matt Jarvis attempted to take home the top prize.
