As his stellar 2016 shows no sign of slowing down, Ari Engel is once again the top-ranked tournament poker player in Canada. This is Engel’s fifth week as the top tournament poker player in the country and as we enter December, Engel also leads the Canadian Player of the Year race.
Every week the Global Poker Index (GPI) releases updated results for their poker ranking system. Rankings are based on live tournament cashes in qualifying events over a three year period. Players receive points for in the money finishes based on the buy-in and number of entries.
Engel made his second final table in as many weeks a couple days ago, placing ninth in the Rock N Roll Poker Open for USD $46,208. Engel also had a deep run in the partypoker WPT Caribbean last week finishing 22nd for USD $13,000. The Ontario native final tabled the Playground Poker Fall Classic $10,000 High Roller just two weeks ago, picking up CAD $40,000 for a fourth-place score.
There was no movement among the top 10 Canadians this week, though some players did pick up some points, including second-place Sam Greenwood.

The final month of the year is upon us and thus 2016 is coming to an end. Engel has had a stranglehold on the Canadian POY race and has pretty much locked it up. Engel has 41 cashes so far in 2016, giving him an almost 700 point lead on his closest competitor.
