2013 Aussie Millions Underway in Australia

0

The Aussie Millions tournament series is on now at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. Already a record attendance for the $1k buy-in opening event with 1,338 runners and where a $250,000 first prize was awarded to British poker player Rupert Elder, a former EPT San Remo winner.

There are a total of 26 events on the menu between January 17 and February 3rdincluding a $250k AUD super high roller event that was won by Phil Ivey in 2012 in heads up against Patrik Antonius from a total field of 16 players. Canadians with deep enough pockets to play last year included Daniel Negreanu and Sorel Mizzi.

The main event is set to kick off next Sunday January 27th. It is a $10,600 buy-in NLH event and it is also expected to attract an impressive playing field as many notable pros expected to attend. Last year, Canadian poker players Yann Dion and Daniel Idema ran deep in the main event, finishing in 7th and 8th place for $175K AUD and $129K AUD respectively out of 659 players that entered.

So while we freeze our chips off in Canada today with the likes of -18 degrees in Montreal (-30 with the windshield factor), those of us who made the trip to Australia are enjoying summerlike weather on top of a great tournament series.
