The 2012 Borgata Poker Open series is well underway after having kicked off on September 5th with Event #1, a $560 buy-in Deep Stack tournament guaranteeing a $1 Million in prize money. The guarantee was easily surpassed with 3,705 entries, making a prize pool of $1,852,500 with winner Benedetto Bianco going home with $309,196.
Twenty-two events will lead up to the signature 2012 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship this coming weekend. Last year’s 2011 Borgata Poker Open was the largest WPT event ever. The winner, Bobby Oboodi, won $922,411.
The buy-in for the Championship event is $3,300 + a $200 entry fee and the Borgata is guaranteeing a prize pool of $3 Million. The event is a deep stack double play no-limit hold’em re-entry with 30,000 in starting chips.
Up until 2008, the buy-in was $10,000 and attracted close to 500 players every year. But lowering the buy-in has made the event more accessible and the number of participants has continued to sky-rocket every year. There were 1,018 in 2009, 1,042 in 2010 and 1,313 in 2011 creating a WPT attendance record.
The tournament is played at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City.
