The World Poker Tour continues its California segment of the tour making its way from Los Angeles where the LAPC just took place, over to Bay 101 Casino in San Jose for the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star. The $10,000 Main Event which is set to take the stage on Monday March 5 and run through to March 9 will have two Day 1’s on Monday and Tuesday with 10:45 AM starting times. Players will play 10 one-hour levels on Day 1, and on Day 2 Wednesday March 7 the field will play down to 18 players followed by Day 3 that will play down to decide the 6-person final TV table.
What makes the Bay 101 Shooting Star truly unique and hence the name is that each table will feature a “Star”player and a $5,000 bounty will be rewarded to anyone who knocks out one of the Stars during the tournament.
Some of the best names in poker will be featured as “Shooting Stars” bounties and include three former WSOP Champions in Phil Hellmuth, Jonathan Duhamel and Joe Hachem as well as other notable pros such as Daniel Negreanu, Eric Seidel, Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Mike Sexton, and defending champion Alan Sternberg.
An estimated prize pool of $3.8 million is expected based on 400 players and the winner of the event will receive over $1 million including a $25,500 seat to the WPT Championship Event. Last year’s event drew 415 participants.
This is surely one of the more exciting events in the WPT thanks to the bounty concept which has players shooting for the stars.
Good luck to all!!
