The World Poker Tour (WPT) 9th Annual Celebrity Invitational will take place this weekend at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. The glamorous event will show off a mix of professional poker players, sports stars, actors and musicians and play for Chrysalis, a non-profit charitable organization that helps economically disadvantaged and homeless people become self-sufficient through employment opportunities.
While this is a freeroll tournament with a $200,000 prize pool, including a $25,000 seat to the World Poker Tour World Championship, players will be able to purchase one rebuy for $200 before the first break.
Beginning at 7:00pm local time, a red carpet walk will be held and notable players will enter the tournament arena. The cards are expected to hit the felt at 8:00pm, with the tournament being taped for broadcast as a part of the WPT’s Season IX schedule on Fox Sports Net.
The WPT Invitational takes place during the LA Poker Classic with the Invitational playing down to the final table of 6 players who are expected to return on March 2nd for the televised table that will run parallel to the final table of the LA Poker Classic.
A list of confirmed celebrities that will be in attendance includes Jennifer Tilly, Don Cheadle, Shanna Moakler, Donnie Walberg, Sarah Jean Underwood, Jose Canseco, Jerry Buss, Randy Couture, Coco Crisp, and members of Boyz II Men. Other celebrities include Daniel Baldwin, Donnie Walberg, Rikki Lake, Dr. Phil McGraw, Gina Gershon, Mimi Rogers, Mekhi Phifer, Chaka Khan, Barbara Mandrell, and others. Canadian Jonathan Duhamel is also confirmed to attend.
In 2010, 567 participants competed to win their share of the $200,000 total prize poolat stake. Six celebrities managed to finish in the money. Professional boxer LeRon Washington who practices poker part time, won top honours. The victory paid him half the prize pool, for a total of $100,000.
More than 500 players are confirmed to attend this year.
