The 2011 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) came to a close on Tuesday after two weeks consecutive of online poker tournaments. With the absence of US poker players, the original guaranteed prize pools were cut in half and were noticeably lower than last year’s SCOOP but still produced good pay days and in total over $43 million was paid out.The SCOOP tournaments were categorized into 3 different buy-in levels: Low, Medium and High with each level having its own buy-in amount and guaranteed prize pool, making the tournaments interesting for players of different levels and budgets.
The guaranteed prize pool of the $10,300 buy-in SCOOP main event, originally set at $5 million was cut by half to $2.5 million as a result of Black Friday and saw 45 players making the bubble. There were 380 players in the field and a deal was made between the top 5 players. First place was set to receive $735,300 prior to the final-table deal.
1. Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro (Finland)— $504,691
2. Tagult (Germany) — $540,125
3. StigR (Norway) — $390,000
4. altiFC (Germany) — $369,581
5. Marius “danskemann” Olsvik (Norway) — $430,002
All the tournaments surpassed the guaranteed prize pools. There were many Canadian players who finished in the money and some and several Canadian poker players who finished in top spot.
The first major win by a Canadian poker player was when xSuPrA won Event #5 the $1,050 buy-in Turbo No Limit Hold’em with rebuys beating field of 233 players to win $157,810. In Event #7 the High $1,575 buy-in Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em, Big_Nemo beat 268 other players to win the event and earn $81,665. Two events later and again in the high buy-in part of the Six-Handed Mixed Limit Hold’em (Event#9), StatusUp took top spot, good enough for a $56,680 payday.
Canadian poker players did really well in Pot Limit Omaha events, capturing three separate wins. In Event #17 the Six-Handed PLO $162 buy-in with rebuys, Chilax Chuck won $48,963 for first spot. Event #23 the Turbo Pot Limit Omaha Cubed saw Canadians take both the Medium and High buy-in events. Iftarii won $32,145 in the $109 buy-in and alexandrapau won $84,065 in the $1,050 buyin. Both alexandrapau and Iftarii had multiple cashes throughout the series, Iftarii actually had a second place finish to ElkY in Event #35 the Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em high buy-in making $62,500. Another Canadian, Big_nat123, won the equivalent event in the low buy-in and got paid $40,375.
