2011 Nova Scotia Poker Open Results

The $500+$500 No Limit Hold-em 2011 Nova Scotia Poker Open took place last Saturday at the Casino Nova Scotia poker room in Halifax, bringing in a total of 59 players for the event; not surprisingly, local Eric Place was once again amongst the top finishers.

Over the past year, Place seems as if he might be to Canadian poker felts what pirates are to Somalia; “plundering the loot”, or in this case chip stacks, of incautious players on both the east and west coasts of Canada. Eric won the 2010 British Columbia Poker Championships Main Event for $300,000; followed it up this with a 32nd place finish worth another $7,500, and adds an additional $4,425 to his running total with a 3rd place performance in the NSPO.

That is of course, on top of winning Casino Nova Scotia’s Halifax Classic $500+50 No Limit Texas Hold’em for a few twenties shy of $18,000 this past May…we are pretty sure Eric has just gotten started capsizing opponents, and his poker career will continue sailing full and by.

Geoff Hum ended up “shipping” the event; claiming the first place prize of nearly $11,000. While we haven’t seen or heard much about Geoff in past events, it appears he is an avid hockey player in his early twenties; with a youthful competitive spirit and the taste of some newly acquired wads of hundo’s; there is a good chance the name will come up again.

Alex Allison was the second place runner up, “netting a catch” of almost $6,500.

For those looking to enjoy some poker in Halifax, Casino Nova Svotia will be continuing it’s special poker event schedule on January 7th; the “2012 Kick-Off” is a $300+$30 No Limit Hold’em with an estimated prize-pool of $24,000 (based on the 80 player field cap being met).

Participants receive a $10 meal voucher as well as free parking with their paid entry and the event will begin at 11:00 am on January 7th, 2012. Players will start with 5,000 in tournaments chips and blind levels are thirty minutes long. If 71-80 spots are filled, 10 places will payout; 29% of the prize-pool will be allotted for 1st, descending down to 2.5% for the first player eliminated from the final table. A sell-out would put the top prize at nearly $7,000; based on that pay scale.

Until game day, here are the final results from the 2011 Nova Scotia Poker Open:
