2011 British Columbia Poker Championships Top Ten Results For Events 1 & 2, Terry Tsang Schooling The Fields

The 2011 British Columbia Poker Championships kicked off last week, once again packing the house after selling out all three starting days for it’s $550 Bounty No Limit Hold’em Event #1 and then following it up with a 660 player starting field for Event #2, an $1,100 No Limit Hold’em that determined it’s winner after playing into the early hours of Monday morning.

BC Poker Championships at the River Rock Hotel and CasinoLooking at the Top Ten finishers in each event, it seems that one player in particular is looking to steal the show this year; Burnaby’s Terry Tsang not only started things off on the right foot with a final table finish in the $550, but impressively also followed that with a win the $1,100. The combined scores make Terry the first player of this years BCPCs to bank over $100,000 in prize money, though there are more on the way with both Event #3, the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event and Event #4, a $5,000 “High Roller” still to go.

With this great start, Tsang over tripled his prior “official” major poker winnings total from his past 4 years of play.

Also crushing his prior results for the same BCPC tournament in 2010 was Bowen Island’s own George Zawadzki. Last year, Zawadzki fell just short of the final table after being eliminated in 13th place, but that’s ancient history now after claiming the over $52,000 first place prize money for winning the $550.

Glancing at some of the names who made the first 2 final tables, it seems that George and Terry aren’t the only players continuing on some notable “streaks” via the BCPCs this year; according to local poker expert Mark Daniel Hughes and one of his top BC player picks, the 7th place finish here by Chris “maxxscam” Back now gives him at least one final table in Canada’s largest poker series for the past three years straight.

Final table finishers from BCPC Event #1:

$550 No Limit Hold’em, Oct 25 – 28, 2011

John Wilson
John Wilson Wilson has been on a Hot Streak this Year

Alberta’s John Wilson, also continued his 2011 poker tear here, with a 3 way deal between the final 3 players that earned him $90,000 and left about $12,000 in the middle for the winner. You might remember our interview with John a few months back after he won this years $2,000 COPC Heads Up in Calgary, or maybe you recall his name from winning the $1,100 in Edmonton this spring. One thing is for sure, his name is getting harder and harder not to notice in the poker world and it doesn’t appear to matter what city the felts are located in for Wilson to dominate.

Also becoming quite standard on the final table results of various events around the country and present again here are Jonathan Sanborn and Ron Campbell. Sanborn has already won 2 major events in Edmonton this year, along with multiple other final tables; adding yet another Ten 10 finish here.

Campbell has been on a pretty good poker rush himself; including his tenth place finish here he has also cashed in the top half of the final tables at several major events over roughly just the last month. Statistically speaking, Vancouver and River Rock Resort Casino have been pretty good to Ron; of the 7 major events hosted by the venue that he has attended, 4 wound up being in the money finishes and 2 where final tables; now that’s some pretty decent numbers.

Final table finishers from BCPC Event #2:

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em, Oct 30 – 31, 2011

1st TERRY TSANG – $138,200
2nd JORDAN MCMASTER – $88,511
3rd JOHN WILSON – $55,845
4th MARTY COOPER – $43,973
5th KI JOON NAM – $36,120
6th KHALY DANG -$28,457
7th HUNG QUOC NGUYEN – $22,175
8th MICHAEL KOWBEL – $17,275
9th JONATHAN SANBORN – $12,564
10th RON CAMPBELL – $8,041
